Doors open 9.45am. All welcome.
Mainly Music is a fun music session for parents/carers and young children 0-4 years of age. The program provides the opportunity for you and your child to connect and have fun together, for kids to play, and for adults to find connection and support.
We normally meet in the Westbury Baptist Family Church between 10.00-11.30am on Wednesday mornings, during school terms. Doors open from 9.45am with a 10.00am start.
A structured 30 minute music session, full of songs and rhymes, actions and movement, is followed by around an hour of eat/play/chat. An allergy-friendly morning tea is provided for your child, and cake and tea/coffee for you!
If you are new to Mainly Music, you are welcome to come along for the first week for free, just to try it out. Then if you would like to continue, we will ask you to pay $5 per family for each subsequent session. This is to help cover subscription costs. Bring a hat and sunscreen for your child should the weather permit us to use the outdoor play area.
When some of the parents were asked what they liked about mainly music, and what keep them coming back, the responses were similar:
- We like all of it…the interactive music and the playtime after. It’s a safe and contained area. Morning tea is a highlight! We love it. The kids like to come along and ask to come back.
- The cake. Friendly faces. The children enjoy it.
- We like the interactivity of the music and breaking it up with music and play. Its more community oriented than some other things we’ve been to. Its good seeing the same faces regularly and making friends. The consistency of the program. Morning tea is nice too!
- It’s the highlight of my week!
- It’s by far, our favourite activity of the week that we take our children to.

Children will learn to name parts of their body as they interact with the songs and rhymes.

When you come to mainly music, engage with your child and you’ll find they participate more and gain more educational value as a result.

The sessions contain a lot of movement, helping children use and develop their gross motor skills.

Co-ordination and co-operation are two outcomes of many of the songs and rhymes.

Hand/eye/body co-ordination is very important as children grow and develop. At first a child will not be able to achieve this movement. But as they practice and gain opportunity to perfect the movement (which happens at mainly music), their skills will develop and their brain will be strengthened. This rolling action is also a contralateral movement.

In a mainly music session, percussion instruments and props are used to assist children’s learning and engagement in the songs and rhymes.
The children (and some adults) love the opportunity to dress up for Book Week.
A healthy morning tea is provided for the children.

Outdoor play is popular.
